LAB ASSIGNMENT 10 – Creating a Simple Honeypot

Materials Needed:

• Computer
• Installed Windows
• Internet access

Activity

Step 1: download BackOfficer

• Download BackOfficer from http://www.nfr.com/products/bof/bof-1-01.zip

Step 2: install BackOfficer

• Unzip and install the BackOfficer that you downloaded in Step 1.

Step 3: Configure BackOfficer

Right-click the BackOfficer icon in the system tray, click Details, and then Options.

Step 4: analyze the IDS

Analyze the results of your tests

• Listen for Telnet sessions. Try telneting to the computer.
• Listen for HTTP. Try connecting to the web server.
• Was the IDS easy to configure?
• Did the IDS seem to work?
• Were there many false positives?
• Were there any false negatives?
